Workplace Risk Assessment
Within any organisation the health and safety arrangements form an integrated part of the business set up and are there to identify hazardous areas and activities that affect human life, buildings and the environment. By assessing these areas both before and during the activity any organisation must have regard to health and safety law (Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, Regulation 3).
Risk assessment is the process whereby hazards are identified within the workplace, wherever it may be. The likelihood of the hazard resulting in harm is then assessed. Once the hazards have been identified, the first consideration is to determine whether it is possible to remove the hazard completely, if this is not possible, the controls that reduce the level of risk to a minimum are then put into effect, reducing the risk of injury to a tolerable level.
